An afterimage is an optical illusion that refers to an image continuing to appear in one’s vision after exposure to the original image has ceased.
The video work Afterimage is a slow-moving animation with an accompanying original soundtrack. It is intended to create a meditative space. The piece forms part of a wider in-progress project Connected, an investigation into human interaction with and through electronic media.
Each frame of the work is patterned on an identical two-dimensional grid. Transitions between frames are fluid and transfigurative to give the appearance of breaking the grid’s inherent rigidity and to create the optical illusion of an expansive three-dimensional space.
